 The second largest city of the island; is not called the city of art and literature by accident. The oldest Philharmonic Band of Greece is situated in Lixouri, while in the
Iakovatios Library anyone can find manuscripts from the 14th century and many exceptional books. Besides the
Eptanisian architecture of the buildings what makes the city special is the dried-up stream that cuts it in two and the ferries that makes the access to the capital much easier since the trip lasts only 20 minutes.
The Municipality of Paliki includes many traditional villages, monuments and twenty-two beaches.
 The most famous and tourist areas are:
Kounopetra: A geophysical phenomenon in which the homonymous rock that is located on the shore, presents a constant and continuous movement without having proven where this movement comes from.
The Beach of Xi: With the red sand that contains argil and is recommended for various illnesses since its water has a therapeutic effect. Xi has been awarded a Blue Flag.
The Monastery of Kipouria: which was built on a steep rock 90 meters above the sea level; with its exceptional built church and its rare heirlooms, while the enchanting sunset is considered one of the most beautiful of the Mediterranean.
The Beach of Platia Ammos: This beach is located next to the Monastery of Kipouria and sees the endless blue of the lonian Sea. While the inaccessible it is incredibly enchanting; maybe one of the most beautiful beaches worldwide.
The Bay of Petanoi Beach: which is referred in Homer’s Odyssey, it means the open horizon and is a beautiful, relaxing but also adversative landscape. Its bluish and calm water can very easily become wild and dark blue. It is so clear like crystal and even though the depth is so big, you think that you can touch the bottom. It has been awarded a Blue Flag.
The scenic Bay of Porto Athera: It is a paradise for the fishermen, amateurs or not, since it is considered a passage. Furthermore the small island in the middle is a refuge for many rare kinds of birds.
Visiting Lixouri you will discover so much that you will remember it forever.
