An introduction to Lixouri

With its leisurely tempo and landmark red sand beaches, Lixouri holidays are a lovely choice for a truly Greek experience. An unhurried town, amid unspoilt countryside on an uncrowded peninsula …Lixouri is just un-touristy. So much for the 'uns' – now for the 'ultras'. It's ultra friendly, ultra easy-going, an ultra successful blend of island tradition and modern comforts.

Facing east across the inlet to Argostoli, your summer holidays to Lixouri could see you strolling the waterfront past grand Venetian houses, browsing in gift shops around the main square and choosing a lively taverna for a family meal that's fun and cheap. Beaches
The red, fine sands of Lepeda Beach, perhaps the best in the resort area, are 2km away from Lixouri Centre. The beach is clean and shallow waters make it excellent for families. Those looking to explore the peninsula will find a number of attractive beaches, some offering a limited range of water sports in high season.

Eating out
The tavernas and restaurants cater for all tastes; Greek and Italian are particularly recommended. Why not accompany your meal with some locally produced village wine straight from the barrel served in a traditional tin carafe?

Nightlife
In high season, the two discos just outside of the town are a big hit with locals! While in Lixouri there are a handful of tavernas and bouzouki clubs providing a perfect setting for a relaxing evening.

There are a handful of local boutiques and shoe shops.

Local information
See sights such as Lakouatos Mansion Museum, perhaps the most beautiful house to survive the 1953 earthquake. Visit the monastery at Kipoureon, perched high on the cliffs, or travel to Assos on the northern peninsula and see the impressive Venetian fortress. Visit the Pali Band Music School in Lixouri the second oldest in Greece, and during festival times enjoy one of the many concerts performed.
